Our dream was born almost 25 years ago. As young students we fantasized about a little B&B in the French Alps. It didn’t go further than fantasizing though. After studies came work, children and an own company. We were firmly entrenched in our lives. As from 2019 the company went very well, but with the arrival of success, the pleasure in work decreased. After a lot of thought and conversations, we came with the solution to sell our share and embark on a new adventure.

Even before we had children, we loved going on holidays to Corsica. I think we went there a total of 7 times. What made such a trip special every time was the change we noticed from the moment we entered the ferry. From then on everything seemed to slow down, flowing with the atmosphere of the island. Together with our children we have been to Corsica, Sardinia and Cyprus, but often it was very warm. In 2019 we were orienting ourselves for another holiday, but we didn’t want to go to Southern Europe because of the heat. We opened the map of Europe and looked for islands located more to the north and so Bornholm came first in our sights. We went there and were impressed by the nature, the climate and the people.

When Eric finally took the decision to relinquish his share in the company in 2021, Judith had just started an education to become a teacher’s assistant. There was initially great shock when Eric came up with his ideas. After much deliberation we decided to embark on the new adventure together. After Judith graduated, that is. That moment coincided nicely with Casper completing primary school.

In the Christmas holiday of 2021/2022 we left for Denmark to visit some houses. And just as is often the case with puppies: looking is buying. We found a house with a lot of potential in a dream location and on the first of April 2022 we received the keys. Bornholm has a residential obligation on many locations and that was also the case at our house. As a result Eric divided his time between Bornholm and Doetinchem, while Judith and the children stayed in Doetinchem. In the end of April 2023 the time had finally come and we all left for Bornholm for good.
